Hi! I like the sound of the above, but seriously, I need to loose some fat but very strict diets isn't my thing. Do you have any suggestions about a "diet" or type of food that tastes good and is healthy . The only workout I do is walking for 40 min before or after breakfast. |

Almost every scientific research done by the Swedish Health Board shows that WeightWatchers are the only "diet" that can make you loose up to 1 pound / week without excersising or being hungry. And a big plus is that you can eat whatever you want with some modifications thanks to their pointsystem. I myself have lost 35 pounds in the last year. And the first 6-7 months I did almost no excersise at all. For those however that are looking for more rapid changes I can recommend Body For Life that a friend of mine did. It includes 6 smaller meals and 2-3 workouts per day but for those with the time and effort it works great. |
Eat well without too much effort...

Honestly, I can say just don't follow any "plans". First of all, they're most likely ridiculous, restrictive plans anyway, and anything that is a plan makes you feel that you've broken it as soon as you eat something not on the plan. Honestly, my suggestion is just finding things that are healthy that you actually really like. This is doable, it's just harder because we are surrounded by easy convenience foods that we eat all the time that taste great and are awful for us. It takes a bit more effort to find the other foods but it's possible! I.e. - you like tuna? Great, it's good for you. Mix it with low fat mayo and put it in wholewheat bread for a good sandwich. If you like carrots, or peppers, or just one vegetable, make them more edible by dipping them in Ranch dip made with fat-free sour cream. If you like milk, have some (1% or 2% only)! If you like fruit, eat it (unlimited amounts!) Smoothies are great - natural fruit leathers are even good sweet treats. And one day of the week, if you must have it, allow yourself to eat whatever you want. As for exercising, the same rules apply. Find things you like doing - walking, tennis, football, shopping even? Walk up and down a big huge mall for a few hours and trust me, that will be a workout! Just stay away from big corporate fast food chains...and try to eat only what you like but also what is good for you. Good luck! |

Annabella- I agree. No plans followed here either. Just watch what I eat and workout. Seems to be about the best plan out there. lol |

you know I have found Annabellas advice and wisdom profound, after trying wieght watchers 3 times in my life withe no success that is permenant , wasting money and time researching food and diets plans, kidding myself that oneday I,ll do what I need to do. the only thing I have found is to stop lying to my self. I,m fat because i eat to much and I,m not active enough. you dont have to change eithr of these thing too much to make a difference. Make better chioces about foods. read labels if you must eat alot of processed food look for low gi bread, wieight wathches products in your supermarkets are great. but most of all look for unprocessed foods. think fresh, if you can. fish , red meat, vegies. cook them in your favoraie ways and enjoy them. dont guts yourself though. One of the things I do is to go through my fridge once a week find all the vegies that look a bit sad or nearlly finished put em all in a big pot with some stock , cook em up untill things are soft but not mush. i take about half of the pot and put it through the blender then add it back to the mix. the soup you end up with is different every time. my family come round now at least once a week just to have it. I guess what I,m saying is that finding your own way through is harder but in the end is best of all,,,,,, because you did it yourself.. when you loose wieght you know that you did it because of your own choices, planning, drive to change.. what a boost to your self esteem... keep trying .. lumpy |

I know what you mean, even Weight Watchers feels restrictive after you go off it. I did a really good job on it for a whole year. I dropped from a size 14 petite to a 10 petite and I felt like I was 10 years younger. As I relaxed after the year was over I felt myself eating whatever I wanted again and now the pounds are slowly creeping back on. I've been thinking about trying to do the diet again but I know unless I'm in a competitve group doing it I just spoil myself by lettimg myself eat whatever I want. I haven't been doing any real physical things for about two weeks and I'm feeling really sluggish and uncomfortable. I've bumped back up to a 12 petite. What I think I need to do is start dancing twice a week and playing golf (walking) about twice a week...and going to bed before 10:00 so I don't start prowling around the kitchen ...The one thing I keep in mind is that my body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit not a "Frat house" so I need to stop just putting any old kind of junk in it. I've also thought of silkscreening a really gross picture of what fat looks like on the inside onto a hankerchief and every time I'm about to eat something I don't really need I'll whip out the handerchief and drop it (picture side up) on top of the food...I'll let you know how it works..hey why don't you try it too? |

I firmly believe that diets don't work and each person needs to fundamentally change the way they eat. I've never taken the time to really think about it in a systematic way but someone else has. The guy doing the "I can make you thin" series that's running on TLC right now has some extremely good points and it's a manageable system. I won't get into all of the specific details because it would take me all night to type, but there are four basic rules: 1. Eat when you are hungry. 2. Eat what you want. 3. Eat consciously. 4. Stop when you are full. Personally, I think rule 3 is the problem with the majority of us and I know it's my biggest challenge. There are some sub-rules to 3. No reading, listening to the radio or watching TV when eating. Pay attention to your meal. Put down the fork and knife (or sandwich) between every mouthful. Chew your food at least 20 times and pay attention to what you are eating. You'll discover you eat much less because your brain will figure out that your full quite a bit earlier than normal. |

Hi, I lost weight with weight watchers before 10kg on the first go and 5 on the second. Those 5 are back on, so maybe it is time to get back on track. Since it is easier with a group: is anyone interested in one? Karin |

Honestly anytime you eat consiously you are on a type of diet. The trick is knowing what you are taking in and how much. Most americans overeat. Also no result is permanent if you stop a diet and go back to old habits. I dont diet but I tend to go between 150 and 170 because my eating habits change. You also need to understand how your body handles certain foods. IE my spouse doesnt digest simple carbs very well and packs on the lbs even with going to the gym and doing lots of cardio. I on the hand hand dont digest red meat very well, course my spouse hates chicken so you can imagine what dinner is like :P |

Low carbs, low carbs low carbs! Which allows for steaks and nice sallads, chicken, fish, eggs, cottage cheese. Who cares about potatoes and rice anyway... |

if all you do is it burgers and fries and walk everyday you WILL loose weight the trick is CONSISTENCY!!! If you keep it up the weight will come off, you have to be disciplined, its not easy. If it was easy everyone would be thin, some people just have to work at it A LOT more than others thats just the way it is. GOOD LUCK |
I think maybe I'm a frat house... :)

E004730 ...The one thing I keep in mind is that my body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit not a "Frat house" so I need to stop just putting any old kind of junk in it. ... That's hilarious E004730 :D I think maybe my body's been a frat house for a while now - a lot of chips, beer and meat has gone into my 'keg belly' (definitely not a 6-pack!!) over the years ;) Perhaps treating my body as a 'holy' place rather than a 'holey' place (ie, a big space into which things go and are never seen again LOL) might work. I also agree with the suggestions that you need to learn a different way of eating. I have tried so many diets over the past 15 or so years - cabbage soup, detoxes/fruit only, liquid diets, low-carb, Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, Atkins - you name it! The only thing I've found that works without making me feel deprived or cause the weight to come back almost the second I stop the diet is low-GI - this is not the same as low-carb, it's about how your body absorbs the energy in your food. Some foods are low-GI, some medium and some high - the best ones for weight loss are low-GI as they fill you up and take your body longer to absorb. Think oatmeal/porridge instead of cornflakes, sweet potato instead of white potato, brown rice instead of white etc. I have been following the general guidelines of this plan for a month now and find that I am less tired, less bloated, am enjoying nutritious, filling and yummy foods and not feeling deprived as I'm learning to listen to my body as to when it's hungry and when it's full. The program also advocates regular exercise, building up slowly using daily walks and some basic toning exercises every other day. Each week you add more walking time, additional toning exercises and also do some mental exercise, eg thinking about how to adjust the habits that got you fat and unfit. It's wholistic and also advocates slow weight loss, and taking time to adjust to your new weight before trying to lose more. It may take me longer to lose the total amount of weight I (and my doctor) feel my body needs but I know that doing it this way is going to be healthier and longer lasting than other methods I've tried (and failed at) as it's helping me build healthy habits for a lifetime, not just to 'lose 10kg in 10 days' that I'll inevitably put back on in the next 10 ;) Good luck to all those who need to get to a healthy weight, by whatever method, but I certainly encourage you to find a method that addresses the needs of your body and your mind as that's the only way to make your new, healthy habits last.
Doing something is better than nothing, and nothing is never an option!

Hello Guys, It is true that cutting off extra pounds is not so easy. It is always easier said than done. A hectic dieting scheme that will devoid you of food fantasies is of no use without proper exercise. On the other hand if you do carry out a cardio-vascular work out to burn extra fat, please avoid high calorie meals and high protein diets, or all the good work is flushed down the drain. |
